Tweeting with your mouth full

Twitter has seemingly been under pressure lately. And it went under today, again! It caught the eyes of big time tech website TechCrunch here.

This is somewhat of a double edge sword for the rapidly growing company that recently moved into their new studio. The positive side: It could mean the company has gained so much attraction to its services, it was overwhelmed with usage. Which brings us to the negative side: Can twitter live up to the demand is has attracted, judging from its recent downtime from overloads?

Now Twitter is no stranger to any tech savvy person as portrayed by this hilarious clip from SuperNews.

And according to this CNET blog, “Twitter” is THE most popular word for 2009, surpassing “Obama” AND “H1N1”. Amazing if you ask me. From it’s strange feathery name, that supposedly allow humans become birds, to it’s even stranger service, that’s so simple, it’s a wonder why no one came up with it when Tim Berners-Lee was inventing the internet (I guess we had to wait until the internet went mobile) Twitter has been on par, and will probably surpassFacebook in it’s popularity and usage.

It has allowed users to follow, real-time, some very high ranks in the world, from Obama to News teams, which were unimaginable not too long ago. It has it’s perks and novelty, which took me quite some time to grasp, “Why would people with already busy lives, make it even busier to stop and type in what their doing”. But through blogging, and the integration of Twitter into applications has made it an attractive tool for exploring the web.

Would it become a Google killer? It’s quite an interesting question to ask. Maybe one no one has taken on seriously. Last I dug up, Google was in talks with Twitter and Facebook about integrating search results, which I believe Bing.com from the innovative-lacking tech mammoth, Microsoft, wanted a slice of the pie, if not, the whole pie!

It just comes to show, Simplicity and maybe even limitation, is slowly becoming the dominant trend. iPhone anyone?
